The fact that these "device files" exist doesn't mean there's
something behind them.... is the driver modules for your sound card
loaded, if it is do other audio applications work (I like mp3blaster
on the textmode shell of my server :-)?
If in doubt, what sound devices does "lspci -v" list, and what does
"lsmod" output?
