Bruno, The bios in the computer already knows how to go scanning for expansion bios roms, such as the etherboot rom.
You may have seen video cards and scsi cards with expansion roms on them. The bios knows what to look for. As long as you have the correct bootrom, and the bootrom socket is enabled (on some cards, the socket is always enabled), then the bios will find the bootrom and execute the code in it. I hope that helps, Jim McQuillan [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Mon, 16 Jun 2003, Bruno Luciani wrote: > Well this is the next problem, how to boot > from ethernet card ? > > I read in the list about this but is no clear for me > > somebody says to enable the chip using some software etc etc. > > But how the bios of the PC knows about boot from the program > in the rom ? > > Think in 486 or 586 PCS without booting from network in his setup. > > In other hand if I can't boot easy from the card , the floopy is the Best. > > What is it for the rom boot in question ? > > > thanks Bruno Luciani > > > > El Dom 15 Jun 2003 01:42, escribi: > > Bruno Luciani wrote: > > > I am ready to burn my own rom > > > > > > but : which is the correct type of chip for my card ? > > > > > > > > > the rom is a rtl8139 10ec rom > > > > > > It's correct to use a 27c128 eprom chip ? > > > > > > which time access is necesary: 120ms may be ? > > > > Hi there. > > > > By coincidence, I just did this last night.
