Hello marc,
This is what i did:
First i made sure that i had all the dependencies stated in the ltsp-sound
package.
Then i installed the sound package as directed. Then i fiddled a lot with no
result until i finally found out what my sound card actually is. It is a
C-media 8738 chipset which costs me 3.49 and requires the cmpci module to be
loaded. I then configured lts.conf as follows:
[w040]
XSERVER = auto
LOCAL_APPS = N
USE_NFS_SWAP = N
SWAPFILE_SIZE = 48m
RUNLEVEL = 5
SOUND = Y
SOUND_DAEMON = nasd
VOLUME = 100
MIC_VOLUME = 100
CD_VOLUME = 75
SMODULE_01 = soundcore
SMODULE_02 = uart401
SMODULE_03 = cmpci
But started the client in runlevel 3 for checking with lsmod and watched the
logging messages carefully.
Then using OpenOffice i can play .wav files on the client from the gallery. I
can also add more .wav files to the gallery and use OO as a make-shift sound
player. If i use esd instead of nasd i can get XMMS to work but it likes to
crash a lot like this. So for now i have OO working with sound which is
exactly what i need for educational purposes here in England but I will be
going down the route of local apps in my search for full sound capability on
my thin clients.
hope this helps
kind regards
garry
