If you really, *really*, cannot or don't want to put that modem to a
serial port on the server, it could be worth the try to connect this
modem to the terminal and have "mserver" running on that local
machine. This is a package that allows to connect serial ports
software-like to a TCP/IP port on that machine. Then that user should
be able to use the modem with PPP (that is what he needs, right?) with
some kind of pppd-command pty option and netcat stuff, but I would
have to investigate on this. Perhaps there is a howto yet, look at The
Linux Documentation Project www.tldp.org. If you succeed, tell us how,
else ask again. No prob for me to dig in deeper, but I won't right
now!
