Old question, it seems.
If you want it for internet access, make the server the connecting
computer and use proxies (squid for example) or a firewall. There are
documents about that at www.tldp.org. If you need it for more special
uses, you could try with something like the printer daemon - I don't
know wether it supports bidirectional connections - or try porting
mserver as local_app.
However, not having modems at terminals is the best choice probably.
