a little anecdote - I am running LTSP latest version on a VMWare server. I had set the NIC up to Autonegotiate- it was (autonegotiating* to 100MB/full-duplex. thingsw were running well with 15 clients.
I had heard a recent tale of someone having trouble when using *autonegotiate* with a cheap Linksys 100Base-T switch (which is what I am using while in developement) and so I got smart and switched the adpater to 100Base-T Full Duplex explicitely - I turned OFF the autonegotiate option. Well, two days later I couldn't figure out why I was getting poor performance on my clients. Opera7 was taking 25 seconds to load where before it was up and running in 2-3 seconds. To make a long story short, I spent 2 hours fooling around with software, before I realized that my Linksys switch was showing *half-duplex* for the LTSP NIC. I reset the NIC to Autonegotiate and now, all is well again. The difference in performance between full and half duplex makes me think that a Switch over a Hub is a necessity. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Enrico Teotti" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2003 6:23 AM Subject: [Ltsp-discuss] switch or HUB in a LTSP lab > hi, > I'm thinking if is it better an HUB or a switch in an LTSP school > laboratory with 10-12 clients?
