if you force your link to 100 full-duplex you have to do so at both ends
of the cable. Nic and Switch-port.

If you have forced in one end of the kable and autonegotiation in the
other. the autonegotiation end allways sets half duplex and you'll get
poor performance. (as you saw)

i recomend to keep you'r setting at autonegotation. 
Since i doubt a cheep switch have a management interface for you to lock
speed and duplex in anyway. (look for a serial port interface on you'r
switch) 

if you can choose. Always choose a switch. 
only thing i use hub's for today are decoration.
