Although this is more of OO problem than LTSP...BTW OO has forums where

One solution from the forum I got was to delete the file
/home/user/OpenOffice.org1.1.0/user/psprint/pspfontcache
Apparently if the users dabble with lot of fonts this files grows very
big and then the slow down occurs. Worked like charm in our
organization.
Also if one users  has already started OO it is generally observed that
the subsequent user gets the start quicker!!

I had also posted a hack solution for slow opening spread sheets if
these were originally created in M$Excel. Just patiently open the
spreadsheet, choose all sheets and copy them into a new file. The only
problem is loss of all formatting but I suspect that it was this which
was causing the slow down.
