hi all,

i've the problem that i have very long response times for parallel printing. it's a hp deskjet 1200c managed by cups. if i send a job the online led begins flashing after maybe 30 seconds. first page is printing after some minutes, the next page is printing after some minutes, then the next page after some minutes and so on.

i've tried different ppd including the recommended foomatic ppd.

ther are any hints?

I'll try to help, but, you didn't give much information.

Are you trying to print to a parallel port attached to the workstation or the server ? Are you using graphics printing or text printing? Even if just printing text, is CUPS translating the print job to graphics? It sounds like you are printing in graphics mode, and the printer is doing what is expected (not a very fast printer).

From HP's website, the print speeds for HP Deskjet 1200C are:

TEXT
* 7 pages per minute, fast mode
* 6 pages per minute, normal mode
* 4 pages per minute, high quality mode

GRAPHICS
* 1 minutes per page, fast mode
* 2 minutes per page, high quality mode
* 3 minutes per page, transparencies
