Volker, this should work fine. Standard LTSP requires Intel clients (although theoretically you could compile the client software for other platforms). The only requirement for the server is that it must offer XDMCP. In addition, you must have a dhcp server, a tftp server, and and an nfs server on your LAN. AIX meets all of these requirements. I've seen LTSP run with a Solaris server, and I've successfully tested LTSP with an RS/6000. When I was working with the RS/6000, my dhcp server was on another machine, so I can't tell you that AIX's dhcp server will work; I don't have any information either way.
