Hello, Currently, we are running LTSP version 4 on a server, which has approximately 50 thin clients attached to it. For the most part, everything seems to be alright however, the clients are very unstable.
The clients have VIA motherboards, running an AMD Athlon 1250MHz with 256Mb RAM. The network cards are Linksys with boot proms installed. The Gfx cards are almost entirely a mix of Radeon 7200 and Matrox G550 cards running duel head. 1) One of the problems is that machines seem to randomly lock up and stop responding. Mostly this happens while the user has gone away from the station and come back again, but this isn't always the case. The message in /var/log/messages for a machine which has exhibited this behaviour is always: Jun 14 07:49:15 lts gdm[24803]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting ws147.ltsp:0 This results in the workstation having to be restarted and a lot of work being lost, which is starting to be a big problem. 2) The other problem seems to be that mostly when a machine is left on overnight, it will have been disconnected from the server and will be sitting at a text screen. This can be sorted by just hitting enter and restarting X, but again, its inconvenient. I would be VERY VERY VERY grateful if anyone can help me with these issues, particularly the first one, as this is crippling our work. Many many thanks in advance to anyone who can offer any assistance, or even let me know if they are having the same problem, Sincerely, Peter Simm ************************************************************************ ****************** This e-mail (including any attachments) is intended only for the recipient(s) named above.
