I have an IBM Netvista 8364 Thin client machine installed on most desks in
our company. One user has two printers attached to her machine. Both
printers work fine, and were originally used in a switchbox configuration
when she still had a PC at the desk.
MODULE_01 = usb-uhci
MODULE_02 = printer
PRINTER_0_DEVICE = /dev/usb/lp0
PRINTER_0_TYPE = S
PRINTER_0_PORT = 9100
PRINTER_1_DEVICE = /dev/lp0
PRINTER_1_TYPE = P # P-Parallel, S-Serial
PRINTER_1_PORT = 9101
The configuration has changed now, and one printer is now USB, so it plugs
directly to one of the USB ports on the client. The second printer is a
parallel line printer for reports and invoices and is connected to the LPT
port (which also works).
The problem that I am having is for the second jetdirect port to actually
listen on port 9101. I have verified that if I were to change the order
of the printers in the config file then there is no problem with which
ever is the PRINTER_0 functionality. However, the client is running the
lp_server program and netstat and ps -aef on the client indicates that the
service is running properly. However, when using NMAP to probe the
client, only port 9100 is being listed as listening - and therefore all
printjobs destined to the second printer will go into the bit-bucket. No
printing, no log reports, nothing.
Does anyone have any idea what could cause such a restriction?
Thanks for your help in advance.
