Hi all

I posted this to the support forum of http://www.giantdisc.com, referring to a project described in http://www.giantdisc.com/download/contrib/ltsp-giantdisc-sebastian.html
Still waiting for replies, so maybe some of you guys can give me a hint on locally running esd/oss and ogg123 in an LTSP context.

Dear Sebastian

I am eager to realize a diskless GiantDisc Jukebox thanks to your inspiration! While I'm still searching for an old Palm on Ebay, I started setting up the LTSP Server/Client.

Now I am stuck with running ogg123 locally on the client. I copied the binary and all necessary libs to the LTSP-tree. I also set up esd in lts.conf, which is running on the client:

# ps ax | grep esd
20495 root 1628 S /bin/esd -nobeeps -tcp -port 16001

but when i try to play ogg on the commandline, it fails like this:

# ogg123 -d esd /Neil_Young_\&_Crazy_Horse_-_04_-_Mr._Soul.ogg
=== No such device esd.

I noticed that ogg123 -h scans for working sound devices on my 'normal' linux boxes (Debian Woody and Redhat

# ogg123 -h
-d, --device=d uses 'd' as an output device
      Possible devices are ('*'=live, '@'=file):
        null* wav@ raw@ au@ arts* esd* oss*

On my LTSP thin client this looks poor, no live devices but null:

        null* wav@ raw@ au@

mpg123 for playing mp3 files runs fine though. I also tried running artsd on the client, but still no luck.

Sebastian, you or anybody else on the list has an idea how to get ogg123 working in an LTSP setup?

Thanks
Paul
