You can do some research and select a list of SSavers that are "cheapest" to run.

On my network I just have a single screen saver available, the
"fractal trees". Not sure if that is even close to the correct name
but it is what it reminds me of. It just appears to be mathematically
simulated trees that "pop up" no animation at all so the network
load is minimal if not negligible.

Subject: [Ltsp-discuss] XScreensaver - Local apps?

Hi all,

I've just set up a new set of LTSP servers, and while monitoring loads on them
(before releasing them into the wild), I noticed that one of the things that
takes up the most processing power is workstations running screensavers.

As I see it I have two options:

- delete all the screensavers on the system other than "blank screen"
- Somehow get XScreensaver running as a local app on the clients.

If the last option isn't too much work, it would be nice to have implemented -
if not for my own sense of geek satisfaction, then for overall staff morale
(people like their screensavers you know!)

Has anyone tried this? Is it feasible?

Best Regards

Louis
