Unfortunately I know nearly nothing about device files an devfs (witch
is used by ltsp).

I getting the entry /dev/usb/scanner0 after plugging the scanner to
the terminal but no logging message.

This seems to be all right. As I thing you not need to load usb-uhci
because it's loaded automatically. At my terminal usb-ohci is loaded
because of the usb2 controller.

Maybe you can boot knoppix on your terminal hardware to double check
the scanner is working there too.
