Ahhh, sounds like you added a new user to your server, but didn't re-generate the NIS maps.

I think you need to go into /var/lib/yp, and run 'make'
and it will remake the NIS maps.

...etc.  Illegal user?  Thats a new one!  I didnt remember getting any sort of
"illegal user" errors when having issues the first time around.
