I've just started to keep my eyes open for these things myself. I think there was a thread a short while ago about using samba for what you want. I got the impression it should work well.
Threads "Access to local devices with Konqueror" and perhaps "Announcement: Yet Another LTSP Removable Media Solution" might be interesting. Perhaps there's more in the archive.
