Check your gdm.conf file for the 'Max sessions' setting. Crank it way up and restart gdm.
Also, there was a bug in GDM, that was fixed about 18 months ago. Any recent distros should have the fix. The problem was, if you turned off your terminal, the session wouldn't die.
Yep! I think if you're using RH9 without upgrade the problem is GDM version. I had this problem in a Debian system and was solved in last "apt-get dist-upgrade" :o) What's your GDM version?
I recently changed my LTSP server from Fedora Core 2 to Ubuntu (Debian) and had to fiddle around with gdm for ages to get it stable - that's gdm 2.6.0.3-1ubuntu20
