No billing method, the customers buy a slot of time from the operator (which sits in front of the server), sit down at the terminal, the operator unlock the machine and time counting begin. When the time is elapsed the terminal is locked down again and the customer buy another slot or go away. The terminal work this way: it boot up as a ltsp client, the server's dm log in automatically the user (one user for every workstatio) and the session manager lock down the right terminal. For the lockin i use xlock running on the terminal, to unlock i do "ssh terminal killall xlock". If the user go away the operator can kill the terminal's xserver (killing also all the application left open by the user) making it restart the login process with a clean session. This functioning schema is very simple, and you would also be able to give the user a restricted evironement and be sure that every new user can't see any thing of what previous user done (as other made you notice). It is intended for a small caffè... i've made some scripts that automatize the process of unlocking/starting countdown and customized some configuration scripts, if you need i will post them... veo > Hello, > > I would like to know if there is any piece of software, usable with LTSP > that can manage users in the way cybercafé applications do : something that > would generate access codes and provide a time limitation. > Does anybody have an experience with that ? > As the Cappucino distro seems to have vanished, I don't know where to > start.
