OK, first of all, Redhat 7.3 is OLD.
I don't think they even do security updates for it anymore (though the fedora legacy project still might). Even if they did, you'd be advised to start with something newer because it will be supported longer. With regards to X86-64/AMD64 support. All of these processors can run standard i386/i586 (IA32) software just fine. You just won't be able to use the additional features of these processors without OS support(like the ability to address larger pools of memory natively, without the ugly hacks). Redhat 7.3 is too old to have a AMD64 build, which is another reason to use something newer. Also, why one server? This isn't as important I guess, but if you think you might expand in the future, it might be better to start with a file/auth/mail server (primarily disk bound) and an LTSP server (CPU/RAM bound). Then you can just add additional LTSP servers as demand grows. That's the conclusion I've come to after lurking here for a while, but YMMV as always, depending on your needs.

Hi all LTSPians,

We are in the verge of expansion of our office and we have decided to have LTSP architecture for the same .

We will be having round about 40 Thin Clients Running simultaneously in full graphical mode . we want to have KDE , Openoffice , Mozilla or any othe browser , etc . running on all the 40 clients

We need to finalize on the Server Configuration which will remain stable for the above given case .
     We only want to have
not more than a single server with ( WE DONT WANT TO HAVE TWO SERVERS )
                     dual processor and
upto 2.5 GB of ram (ram can be upgraded ) .
SCSI Drives or (any thing better than that as you say)
BUT we are only stucked into the processor configuration

I am having following questions in my mind .
1) can we run all intel based applications on the AMD Processor (like sybase for i386 processor and so on ) 2) can a 32 bit application run on a 64 bit Processor 3) IS Red HAT 7.3 capable of detecting a dual processor , and will it support two 64 bit processor's.

It will be great of you if you could guide me through this ASAP because we can't afford to change the configuration after the entire setup is done & I also don't want this Project to be a failure . Please Help me on this .
