Brand new LTSP user here, how is everybody? I'm just about to attempt an installation of 4.1 on Slackware 10.1, I already understand that I'll need some perl packages installed to complete the LTSP install, http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/Slackware but my question is about requirements for X Windows on the Server.
Is X Windows a server requirement for LTSP? Does it depend on if I want X Windows on the client? (I don't run a GUI on my servers) At this point I'd like to just get a shell prompt on a remote booted diskless machine, then a screen environment and then tackle an X Environment on the client, but if I will need the Slackware X Windows packages on the server, then maybe I'll work on that first. I'm fairly comfortable manually editing configuration files, setting up a DHCP server, I've done that a number of times, and I feel I can get TFTP and NFS working easily enough, but having not run X Windows on any of my 6 Slackware servers I'm afraid I don't really know much about X at all. (Except that the programs run on the server (and are called a client) and direct their output to client (which is running X Windows so it's called a server) via the DISPLAY environment variable or some such. :-) ) Thanks to anyone who can clear up this little issue for me.
