I have started to see a problem with famd reporting "too many open
files", similar to the issue recently posted by John McMonagle.
Running LTSP 4.1, on a Mandrake 10.1 system.
cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max
309816
ulimit -a
core file size (blocks, -c) 1000000
data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited
file size (blocks, -f) unlimited
max locked memory (kbytes, -l) unlimited
max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited
open files (-n) 1024
pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 8
stack size (kbytes, -s) 8192
cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited
max user processes (-u) 24574
virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited
This system regularly has about 20 clients logged in, and for the most
part I have it running smoothly (thank you LTSP developers!). I have,
for now, fixed the famd issue by doing a restart of xinetd (which runs
famd), but I would like to know if some tuning may be needed to avoid a
recurrence of the problem. Can the openfiles limit be set on the famd
process specifically?
