Jim,
Tried that (as root) & got nothing back. (Done it before somewhere along
the investigation with the same results)
(Incidentaly the terminal I am using for my testing is an old P166
laptop booting from a floppy which was one I was using on ltsp on the
system I set up about 2 years ago. As it is booting to X & I am getting
a terminal on F2 this is not contributing to the problem. I've got 2
P266 machines set up as terminals in the workshop unconnected with
better graphics if there is any question of it mattering.)
Many thanks again.

Steve,
Try this on the server:
netstat -anp | grep ":177 "
If it returns a line like this:
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:177 0.0.0.0:*
4266/xdm
Then we know it's running and listening on port 177 like it should be.
If that's the case, then there must be a problem with ltspcfg.
If nothing is returned, then xdm isn't listening on port 177, and we'll
have to figure out why. In that case, the IRC channel is your best bet.

Steve,
After modifying the xdm.config and Xaccess files, did you restart
xdm? If so, how did you do it?
Jim.

Jim,
ltspcfg shows:-
xdmcp installed-yes, enabled-no, running-no, notes-xdm using: xdm
Also the command - netstat -ap | grep xdmcp. Gives no output.
xdm on the local machine is running fine.
Never used irc but if you see me appear, I'm there :-) Many thanks

ltspcfg has a bug it ALWAYS displays 'no' for xdmcp enabled.
are you seeing xdmcp not enabled? or not running?
Also, what distro are you using?
I'd like to suggest that you pop into the #ltsp irc channel on
irc.freenode.net, where we can help you interactively.

Having real problems with getting xdmcp to run. Have tried all the
howtos & help on the wiki to no effect & been trying on & off for
several weeks now.
I have no trouble getting X, dhcp etc to run on my terminals. I am
running xdm without other problems on the server. I have gone through
the setup routing several times to no effect. It says xdmcp not
running.
I have checked all xdm files against all the help I can find to no
effect & can find nothing in the logs to see what is going wrong.
I hace had LTSP running before but stopped for a while while I dealt
with other priorities when I got a new server.
Will put up any info that will help but don't want to put up a
load of
stuff which is not of any help so let me know what may help & I'll
gladly put it up.
Steve
