Here's my problem: Unicoled-mounted USB-stick on LTSP-terminal is
readable with Nautilus, but writable only with cp.
I tested my setup with KDE. There USB "just works".
So the problem seems to be poor Nautilus/Samba integration, as
explained here:
http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/
LtspFS#Installing_FUSE_on_Fedora_Core
"Samba doesn't properly deal with very small filesystems, such as
1.4mb floppies. The filesystem size appears as zero, causing
Someone may find my solution useful so here it is:
I found out that the mounted usb-partition (Desktop/Drives/usb) is
writable in every other programme except Nautilus. Even in Nautilus the
mount is writable if the user connects directly to the usb-share. So
here is what I decided to do:
1) In every terminal I opened Nautilus and bookmarked
"smb://ltspNNN.domain.tld/usb" as "USB-stick". When connected directly
to smb Nautilus behaves right: it can read and write. Donwside: works
only if users have dedicated machines: if user from ltsp001 logs in
from ltsp002, his bookmark still points to ltsp001 e.g. a wrong
machine's usb. For me this is not a problem, because office workers
have their own terminals (they don't even know what "terminal" means,
for them they are just "silent computers" :-)
2) I can now instruct users that from program-menus (OpenOffice etc) it
is possible to save to USB with save-command. In Nautilus opening the
"USB" from Desktop makes is read-only, but selecting "USB-stick" from
menu makes is also writable. Not an ideal solution, but something that
I can live with untill I get ltspfs working...
