The big change between LTSP-4.1.1 and LTSP-4.2 is that we no longer
include the older XFree86 3.3.6 drivers. Most of the old S3 cards were
using the 3.3.6 drivers. We've updated the vidlist file to allow
autodetection to choose the newer Xorg drivers, but in some cases, we may
not have gotten the detection right. If your old lts.conf file
specifically points to 'XF86_S3', then it definately won't work. You
could try changing the XSERVER entry in lts.conf back to 'auto', or you
could try setting it to 's3' to see if it works.

If it still doesn't work for you, then send us a copy of your lts.conf
file so we can have a look.
