Another thing to check is to make sure the lbus-start script is run as the user, not root. It will run as root, but not work.

I've spent ages on this and finally figured it out today, thanks to jammcq on irc.


thank you for this advice.
i put 'lbus-start.sh' into '/kde/share/config/kdm/Xsession' which is run as user. now i have drive access after startup and icons on desktop.

my 'Xsession' now begins with the following lines:

#! /bin/sh
# Xsession - run as user

#LTSP Local devices
sh /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/lbus-start.sh
