But my guess the problems are related to the "school" approch like: "now everybody log in" and the server receives all the KDM login request almost in the same time and so when you ask: "now everybody open Open Office writer..." or Firefox... That's what I meant with simultaneously. I don't know another english word for that I'm sorry :-) My guess simultaneously opening (and not just using) programs on the clients, results in an higher traffic on the LAN and load on the server (mostly on CPU I guess, cz the RAM is never affected) just for that while. But to me it sometimes crash the KDM and the OpenOffice. In an office environment, it's hard that all the people opens in same moment OpenOffice, isn't it?
I was wondering if any of you uses (and not just configured or installed) the LTSP lab in a school environment. As a school assistent (and also installer) that's what I've noticed. A problem when you ask your class to do something (login, open programs like OO.org Firefox) at the same time.
