If those laptops have bootable CD drives, the easiest thing to do is to create etherboot CDs. Of course, you would have to replace CDs that go "missing", but that shouldn't be too hard. Another option, which isn't LTSP based, is to use Thinstation installed on the laptop HDs. You can configure Thinstation to connect to the Linux terminal server with XDMCP or NX client, or both. And, to ease management, new Thinstation images can be automatically downloaded and installed to the Laptop HDs - you just have to enable that option.
