here is a little more analysis from /var/log/messages on the boot server (which runs the GDM chooser).
When I use GDM on the server I would like to login to, the log shows a lot of gdm communication. It goes something like this: Working GDM =========== gdm_xdmcp_decode: Received opcode INDIRECT_QUERY from client TERMINAL ... gdm_xdmcp_send_forward_query: Sending forward query to SERVER ... gdm_xdmcp_decode: Received opcode MANAGED_FORWARD from client SERVER gdm_xdmcp_handle_managed_forward: Got MANAGED_FORWARD from SERVER ... gdm_choose_indirect_dispose: Disposing TERMINAL gdm_xdmcp_send_managed_forward: Sending GOT_MANAGED_FORWARD to SERVER Under ono-working KDM ===================== gdm_xdmcp_decode: Received opcode INDIRECT_QUERY from client TERMINAL ... gdm_xdmcp_send_forward_query: Sending forward query to SERVER ... gdm_xdmcp_decode: Received opcode INDIRECT_QUERY from client ... gdm_xdmcp_send_forward_query: Sending forward query to SERVER it loops like this untill it times out. But then again this might not have anything to do with it since we have other servers running KDM (under redhat 7.2) that does not show the MANAGED_X message in the GDM log. So I do not have a clue here... /daleif ``You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.
