Our new LTSP server is supposed to arrive next week, and we have been
presented with an opportunity to install Windows Server 2003 on it, with all
the licensing and everything legal, for free.

I have almost no experience at all with Windows Server 2003, so a few quick
questions come to mind:

1. What antivirus software do any of you recommend?

2. Does sound work well on the workstations with the following applications
on Windows 2003 Server?
         Skype?
         Apple Quicktime?
         RealPlayer?
         Windows Media Player?
         Flash sites?

3. Do USB scanners work on the workstations without a lot of hassle setting
them up? Is it straight-forward setting them up?

4. Do webcams work on the workstations without a lot of hassle, and is it
straight-forward setting them up?

5. How well does it run compared to Linux? In general, is 2003 Server
problematic, or would I be better off sticking with Linux?

6. Is the users familiarity with Windows, as opposed to having to reorient
themselves to Linux, enough to warrant using 2003 Server?

I have no great love for Microsoft, or Windows. Regardless of whether we
put Linux or Windows 2003 Server on it, I have to modify two of our database
programs to run on it; and it is about the same amount of work either way.
I have no career goals, either, so there is no foreseeable benefit or
incentive for me to learn a new operating system unless it will improve our
mission effectiveness / user efficiency, or make my life easier in the long
run.

Any advice, folks? I'd appreciate any advice or information any of you have
to offer.

With very kind regards,

Peter, hieromonk
