No, because the rc.sound script is part of the ltsptree package.

Looking at update-4, I see that I missed adding that package to the 
update, so you (and everybody else) don't have the latest rc.sound script.

Well, at least it's good to know that the rc.sound script isn't causing 
the problem.

The change that was made to the esd package was to eliminate the locking 
problem after the 1st user logs out and the next user logs in. I can't 
see how that change could break anything.

So, that still leaves you with sound that doesn't work.  I'll have to 
think about that a bit.
