I don't know how to do this so I am looking for input from someone that has done it.

I have groups of 5 terminals in each class room of a school we call these pods. Each pod also has a laser printer connected to the USB port of one of the terminals. Everyone in the school can see all the printers in all the class rooms.

I want to make it so that only the people in that class room can see that printer. So basically if you are using a terminal in a zone you have a restricted view of what printers are available.

I am thinking that I may have to write a script and use it in the cups-backend and associate it to terminals by MAC address. I already have terminals setup to register their MAC address with the server at boot time, this is for my program that lets me reboot systems remotely.  So I think it should be possible to restrict printer access by MAC, but if someone has already done this I would very much like to not re-invent the wheel if you know what I mean.
