Roy, Why not just change the *default* printer based upon the workstation you log into. (No one ever uses anything but the default anyway ;) ).
This should be an easy matter of a short login script that exports the PRINTER environment variable (and/or ~/.cups/lpoptions) to the appropriate queue based upon workstation hostname/IP.
