Agreed, latest == greatest at least for LTSP.

Not sure how this answers the question at all, this is a distro
preference, there's no evidence to my knowledge that Debian does
multimedia better than RedHat (granted, his RedHat 9 is extremely old and
outdated).  LTSP is meant to be distro agnostic so if he's comfortable
with RedHat, that should be the best platform for him.

I'd still recommend a true server motherboard over a fast desktop.  LTSP
needs more than just a fast CPU, it needs I/O.
