Uhhh - Part 2 is a FAT, which works, and part 4 is NTFS and seems empty;
partition 5 (which is ext2, and has the data I care about) is apparently
not going to be available. Knoppix mounts the partitions just fine - and
I'm using a Debian Sarge base for the LTSP system, almost the same as the
Knoppix setup.

FYI, I now have an icon for partition 2 (which is NTFS) and it's there,
but it was unable to recognize the partition type for partition 4
(extended), puts an icon for it on the desktop and ignores the partition 5
(ext3) it detected in the prior step.

Can I mount it manually?

Jim-

I was using an xterm. Since then, I have moved to a new workstation and
made a new dhcpd.conf entry for it; I now have the right value in $DISPLAY
- but still it doesn't work. I just installed the package from:
http://ltsp.mirrors.tds.net/pub/ltsp/utils/ltsp-server-pkg-debian_0.1_i386.deb
and I'm hopeful that will do the trick. I really need to get this drive
mounted and ~200 GB of data moved to the server...

What are you running that shows DISPLAY is blank?

If you run a bash shell locally on the thin client, it will be blank.
If you log into the server with Gnome or KDE, and then launch an xterm,
then DISPLAY should have a value.
