I've got a LTSP 4.2 server setup with aprox 20 thin clients. The thin clients differ in hardware as they were used as windows workstations and slowly new hardware was added every year (school with low budget).
At first we had the thin clients running with linux as desktop and they were running fine (including sound). As this is an elementary school they are using some very nasty un-portable Windows software. Because we couldn't convince the managment to invest in proper software we decided to put a windows 2003 terminal server aside the linux box and connect to the user profiles using samba. The thin clients connect to the linuxbox using rdesktop. Now someting strange happened. Some of the thin clients that have AC '97 onboard sound cards (sis 7000 crap e.g.) do produce sound with rdesktop, but there is a speed-up in the sound. It's like listening to the chipmunks. Thin clients that have older type of sound hardware with creative chips don't suffer from the same problem. As they worked fine on a linux desktop my guess is it has something to do with the rdesktop client (kernel module trouble doesn't seem to suite the case). Has anybody else experienced the same problems or better yet, found a solution to it? -- Best regards/ vriendelijke groeten, Peter Bosman OSSO - Open Source Software Oplossingen Internet www.osso.nl Bezoekadres Nadorstplein 3, 9747AB Groningen Postadres Kremersheerd 86, 9737PC Groningen Telefoon 050 2103522 Mobiel 06 44367612 E-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
