I have just recently started experimenting with LTSP. I have installed the server on Ubuntu 6.10 then i got a client with "boot from network" options in the BIOS. some of the older hardware i have doesn't have PXE support in the BIOS, but i was able to get them to etherboot using a floppy.
Now i am trying to get an old laptop with no built in Ethernet adapter to boot. I am was trying to get it to etherboot using PCMCIA Ethernet cards, but soon found out that etherboot doesn't seem to support PCMCIA. I read somewhere that netboot has the ability to boot from ethernet adapters that have NDIS2 or Packet drivers provided by the manufacturer. I found two such cards in my stash. A Netgear FA511 pcmcia card and a Linksys PCMLM56 pcmcia ethernet+modem card. Both have driver zipfies available for download on the manufactures' websites. the FA511 card seems to have a ndis2 driver, and the PCMLM56 seems to have both ndis2 and packet drivers. Will Netboot allow me to boot from pcmcia cards that have ndis2 or packet driver? Is there a better way to get LTSP to boot from a PCMCIA card? ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
