I can only contribute obliquely ... Some low end thin clients with
"slow" processor speeds have also displayed such behavior. I have
tested some clients with 200mhz processors (128mb ram) and if you open
more than one application the switching between applications slows
down.

My general take has been avoid older computers with less than 500mhz
processors. I am still looking at ways to slow down refresh cycles
(already tried with reduced color depth) to see if screen refresh
cycles are culprit.
