Xmms should work if you are running ESD on the thin client.  Go to 
Options | Preferences, and the Audio IO Plugins tab.  The output plugin 
section should have eSound Output plugin listed. 

I'm still using flash 7, which will work if you have the file 
/tmp/.esd/socket on the server before you run firefox.
