Hi Newsgroup,

my idea is to use LTSP to boot some 30 diskless clients, maybe
you guys can evaluate my idea if its going to work.

Right know I have an Linux server which acts as PDC, Fileserver and
later on as LTSP server.
The other server is a W2K3 which runs MS SQL Server and TS.

After booting Linux on the LTSP, the clients should start rdesktop to
connect to the W2K3 Server where the users can login to do their work in
a familiar windows environment.

I have basically 5 applications the users should run on the windows
machine: Word, Excel, Thunderbird, Firefox and a SQL Client app.

As I am going to buy two new servers, my main questions is where
I need to invest most in my servers. Which machine will have the main
load? I know, this is not a hardware NG, but maybe you can give me an idea?

Right know, the Linux PDC is a P4 , 768 MB RAM.
The Windows Server runs on a P4, 2.4GHZ, 768 MB RAM.

Or am I wrong and I should invest time to get the apps to run on the
Linux Server (wine + open office)?

I appreciate the help,
Thanks a lot
M. Miethe
