Don't exactly know what I did, but for some reason, I
had a Windows Share mounted to a file in my .Trash
folder ??? I don't know how that happened, but maybe I
had it mounted and thought it was an empty folder.  I
discovered it by using cat /proc/mounts.  Anyway, I
unmounted that, simplified the smbfs mount found on
www.ubuntuguide.org, re-ran mount -a and it works
beautifully, both locally and on the clients.  I am
really sorry to take up people's time and thank you so
much for your support!

PS:  I also tried AutoFS and it seems to be working
great in our LTSP environment.  It is a real simple
setup and allows people to have 'transparent'
connections to their windows shares.
