All that does, is install the package. It doesn't mean that when a user
clicks on the firefox icon that it launches the local one. That's a
whole different issue.

If you want to run firefox locally, you'll need a method of
authenticating yourself to the thin client. by default, the thin client
doesn't have a clue about users. You don't normally log into a thin
client, you use it to log into a server. Big difference.

For that, you need some sort of network authentication. In the past,
we've used NIS for local apps, but that's pretty much being replaced by
LDAP, although the plumbing isn't all in place yet for that to be nice
and easy.

Once you've got authentication going, then next thing you'll need is a
home directory for your user. Afterall, if you want to launch firefox
to run locally, it's gonna need the users home directory, to store the
users preferences and other things. NFS is the way to do that, but
again, the plumbing isn't in place to make it happen automatically.

These are all issues we hope to address in the next version of Ubuntu
(Feisty+1) that we'll be spec'ing at the next Ubuntu Developer Summit
coming up in early May.

People have actually gotten apps like firefox working locally, it's just
not officially part of LTSP yet.
