How do you check memory usage?

Can you execute 'free' in a terminal and post us the full output?

I have this problem with gnome. On my server, artsd is still running
after user logout. But I have few users, so it is not a problem.

Instead of rebooting, you can put a script in the crontab to kill
those lost process every hour if it's problematic. Is it alway the
same process?
