Yay, thank you for that!

I had put X_KBLAYOUT - causing a syntax error and the whole file to be
ignored. I suppose it would be too much to expect the various X_ flags to be
consistent...

Anyway thanks to you all for helping me through this, I now have the
keyboard layout and the screen resolution I require!
