If they did as ubuntu folk did then there is lots of fiddling:

* The easy way: Login and set your preferences and power setting preferences

* the hard way: use gconf editor and keep track of what/where and when they 
change

If you use kde setup with kde settings

If you use icewm (or presumably other window manages, not desktops) THEN the 
xorg.cong settings prevail
