It is not so silly, sometimes we all get confused with what is run by the 
server and by the client.

In LTSP client are just a display. The server do all the job. It's very like 
you were using the server's keyboard and screen.

The chroot content is download when the client boot. Basicaly, the chroot 
should contains only the minimal system to have an X display and to connect to 
the server. If you need drivers (like for nvidia cards) for your clients, they 
must be installed in the chroot.
All software a user want to run are to be installed on the server. 

This is just a basical description, there is some cases where it is better to 
install softwares in the chroot.
