Well, I downloaded iso, burned it and installed it on the server side
and on the client. Server has sound and client, too, but client's sound
is on the server side. So Debian and Ubuntu works here same way.

It seems to use (to encoding) own "mpeglayer3" for mp3-files.

I'm no Java-specialist, but I think this thing is out of your hands. I
really do not know should Pulseaudio support Java (jre). In this page
there is no sign of Java?

Last version of Malted is about two years old (Malted v.2.5
(Nov, 2006)). Is there new any version to come?

I think it's best that you ask direct from developers of Malted. They
should know if it is possible to fix sound on the client side.

I'm sorry that I can't help you.

Best Regards Asmo Koskinen.
