Adding deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy-updates main restricted to /etc/apt/sources.list in the chroot environment does get the 2.9 drivers, as well as numerous other updates. Unfortunately that only gets me as far as a partial desktop (no menu or task bar) in 640x480. At 800x600 I seem to get 4 640x480 size screens overlapping, complete with 4 pointers. Still no menubar or taskbar. Intriguing, but not particularly useful. Having looked at some of the bug reports related to Geode that Arno mentioned earlier, I'm getting the distinct impression that I should avoid hardware based on Geode. Thanks for all the help.
