We at O'Reilly spec'd the 840 for installation at our 2000 stores, and the
IBM x3200 with similar specs won out based upon dual power supplies.

Our experience is that running icewm, our custom Java application, and
Firefox will support about 15 clients before having any real difficulties.
If you didn't have a memory hog like our custom Java application you'd
probably get beyond 15 clients fairly easily, though KDE or Gnome may be
just as memory intensive.  We have SLES 10 sp1 and LTSP 4.2, so that's also
a consideration.

For more than 15 clients we went up to a dual socket box with 8 GB RAM and
have had plenty of luck.

A Dell PowerEdge 840 Server with 4GB of ram and a  Intel Xeon X3220,
2x4M, 2.4GHZ, 1066MHZ FSB processor using 2 HD SATAII 7.2K RAID 1
(Mirroring) is good enufe for LTSP 5 using Ubuntu LTS 8.04.1 and 10
(ten) terminals conected to him ?

This machine costs in Brazil about 800 USD (with keyborad, mouse, lcd
monitor, taxes and shipping)
