Sorry for that, I use Gnome in every LTSP server and USB sticks works all
the time.

There is old debug howto, but you do not need that anymore in Gnome.

This is a reason why I like to use defaults everywhere; Gnome not Xfce,
Firefox not Opera, OOo not Lyx and so on... if you choose something else
than default common desktop or default common application you have to by
yourself get it work in complex environment like LTSP 5. If you have time
and skills, that is ok; I do not have... for my needs in school and office
vanilla Ubuntu with default applications is great, it just works... and
when I install that very same Ubuntu in colleagues laptops, it is exactly
same what they use as a thin client, no need to explain something twice...
